Adding the Grid

Kris Davidson an Athens artist who has inspired me since high school with his pattern work and sacred geometry skills has always been an element I wanted to add in my art work. After getting a tattoo from him I got to see first hand and ask questions just how he does this work. Ever since then I have been working on integrating geometric pattern in to my work.

I added a grid that is designed out of hexagons to create different triangles to connect the pattern with the triangle. I used a white charcoal pencil to outline it first and will go from there. The developments that are happening is adding a to create something simple looking but still has a complex feel to it. My thoughts about adding the grid is to create what is around us even though we cant see it. The grid is all around I am bringing out to you in the painting and showing how it connects with nature. It is combining both design and nature in one thing which intrigues me as an artist natural design.

Progress

These two Dali paintings are were inspiration for the triangle. How the clocks are melting off of things and the color scheme of he used for the desert gave me inspiration for my colors.

I added the finishing touches on the Triangle that is entering the next realm. Some developments that have been happening in this painting are adding the water and the half moon with lotus flower above. The lotus flower is representing the rebirth of myself during this cross country trip I took and found a lot of inspiration in Utah especially how water used to be everywhere there. I was questioning how to do the water and make it look as if it realistic but still have the surreal feel to it. This triangle has helped me expand my color palette and learn to trust my decisions I make instead of dwelling on what it might look like.

Start on the second painting

Added a blue background to start creating the wall that is blocking the next realm.

This is lake I was at in Montana and that inspiration for the window.

Close up on the next window into the surreal landscape. This is inspired by a lake I went to in Montana. I got a lot of inspiration during a two in half week cross country trip and got inspired to turn some of the pictures I took into a surreal landscape. That triangle isn't an exact picture but it represents my trip into the the Utah Desert, Truly inspiring for me and so was Montana.

progress

Close up on the Triangle. The plateaus to have a surreal look to them. This is where I look for Dali for inspiration because I want to push my skills to be able to get that detail like him when I am doing surreal landscapes.

Added some more to the first painting of the individual series. Giving the triangle some more detail.

Mike Esparza is an artist I met out in Colorado and had the pleasure taking a workshop with. Some of his recent work has been inspiring me for this individual series. He is using the Mische Technique in these paintings.

First painting in the series

This is the start of my first painting in the series. The outside of the triangle is going to be mische painted, which will develop more and more through oil glazes and layering of designs. The Triangle is going to to be solid with a surrealistic landscape. This is help combine one technique of painting I am learning with my style that I paint normally. All the paintings in the series will be a little of my style with the new mische technique that I am experimenting with. The triangle is going to be a window looking into another realm.

Painting II series

Kris Davidson and David Hale

Jack Shure

Salvador Dali

Peter Max

CT Nelson

Randal Roberts

Chris Dyer

Rick Griffin

For the individual series I am going to explore new techniques to enhance my art with three different paintings. I am going to expand my style of art to a more complex surrealist look. This series I have looked at artist that inspire me to go beyond in my paintings and have tremendous detail in their work. This is what I want to accomplish in these three paintings expressing my art with a higher-level of skill and detail. I will be working in a bigger scale and will have one painting in the mische style to further explore this technique of painting that I have learned. Different artist I have been looking at for inspiration for this series are Rick Griffin, Kris Davidson, David Hale, Jack Shure, Salvador Dali, Peter Max, Chris Dyer, CT Nelson, and Randal Roberts. All these artist have a similar style to me and attract me as an artist because of there use of design and form.
